On December 12th, 2022, the Cherokee Indian Police Department in North Carolina received a call about gunfire in the area around 11pm EST. For reasons unknown, the authorities believed this to be a hostage situation and sent a SWAT team in response.
Upon arrival at the residence of Jason Kloepfer & Alison Mahler, there was verbal communication between authorities---who requested the Jason come out with his hands up---and the couple.
Kloepfer opened the door of the trailer and began to exit with his hands above his head. His wife, Alison, stuck her hands out behind his head as she was following him, at which point officers opened fire and shot a compliant, unarmed, disabled man seven times.
Mahler is then seen pulling Kloepfer from the line of fire and laying him down in the trailer as he repeatedly screams, "I've been shot!"
"What the hell!?" Mahler screamed at the officers, "He's shot---what the hell did you do!?"
Police continued shouting from outside the trailer, ordering the two to exit. Mahler, first hesitating to leave her husband unattended, complied while holding her hands up, and shouting to inform officers, "He can't! He's shot!"
Kloepfer was then dragged out of the trailed by his arm for treatment.
Kloepfer was charged with Communicating Threats & Resist, Obstruct and Delay.
The sheriff's office wasn't immediately available for comment---which comes as no surprise to those who watch the video long enough to see the reaction of authorities when they realize that the victim had been recording the entire event via security camera.
With the current climate of American culture---particularly as it regards law enforcement---it's evident that we are only aware of this incident because of those police failed to protect---not those who have sworn to protect us---which is disgustingly pitiful.
