NYE Missile Strike in Kyiv Leaves 1 Dead

It's safe to say that peace is not Vladimir Putin's New Year resolution as he ordered an attack on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. This attack comes as Putin continues the execution of a war that he's often referred to as a "sacred duty to our ancestors and descendants."

Missiles and exploding drones in the attack took the life of at least one person, partially damaged a hotel, and inflicted damage to the war-ravaged electric utilities, causing them to preemptively shut off power.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the New Year's Eve attack in a videotaped reaction as "inhuman", he called Russia a "terrorist state." He went on to warn Putin & subordinates that "those who give orders for such strikes, and those who carry them out, will not receive a pardon... to put it mildly."

In his New Year's address, Zelensky recalled February 24, when he and Ukraine woke up to the first day of the invasion, describing it as waking up "into another life," He went on to say that the first missile barrage Russian sent "finally destroyed the labyrinth of illusions. We saw who was who. What friends and enemy are capable of, and most importantly, what we are capable of. ... The temporarily occupied will become forever free.”
