According to Texas ABC affiliate KTRK, citing Houston Police Department, at approximately 8pm police received a call to the home of Ted Cruz for a report of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted wounds on their arms. While police did confirm that the unidentified teen was then transported to the hospital, they didn't specify whether the teen was a member of the Cruz family.
However, it was confirmed that the teen was, indeed, a member of the Cruz family when a representative for the Cruz family gave a statement to KTRK, stating:
"This is a family matter and thankfully their daughter is OK. There were no serious injuries. The family requests the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time."
Not much else is known at this moment about this particular incident. What we do know is that earlier this year, it was widely reported that Cruz's daughter had come out as bisexual in a now-private TikTok post. In said post, she also detailed her struggle with her father's fame and his conservative views.
As of Wednesday morning, Cruz hasn’t publicly addressed the incident at his home. Over the last several weeks, the Texas senator has been vocally stumping for Republican Herschel Walker in his campaign for Georgia’s Senate seat, and he recently confirmed he’ll be running for a third term in 2024.
